National Trails Day Hike

When: 10 am to 12 pm, Saturday, June 7, 2025

Where: Clark Reservation State Park, 6105 E Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville, NY 13078

Description: Please join Brian Moore, FCR Board Member, on Saturday, June 7th on a hike as part of National Trails Day promoted by the American Hiking Society. The hike begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 12:00 noon. This moderately challenging hike will cover 3.4 miles through the park. There will be stops along the way to learn more about the history of the property, identify some trees and fossils, and learn more about the trail system.

Recommended for folks over the age of 7 who can walk on uneven ground and scramble up some rock outcroppings.

Bring water. The group will meet at the Nature Center and begin their hike at 10 am.

Garden Design Workshop and Self-Guided Land Tour

When: Saturday, June 14, 2025

  • 2 pm to 4 pm Garden Design Workshop
  • 9 am to 6 pm Self-Guided Land Tour

Where: Grow Wild! A Native Plant Nursery, 245 Speed Hill Rd. Brooktondale, NY 14817

Description of Garden Design Workshop: Come join us to learn about garden design ideas for planting with native plants. Work with Mary Martin, Marian Glenn and Brandon Hoak as they answer questions and talk about garden design. Meet representatives from Tompkins Pollinator Pathways and the CCE Master Gardener native plant group. Get your garden on the Pollinator Pathways map and learn about becoming a Master Gardener.

In collaboration with Tompkins County Pollinators Pathway, Busy Bee Ecological Designs, and CCE Master Gardeners.

Description of Self-Guided Land Tour: Take a self-guided tour around the Grow Wild! land to observe and interact with restoration projects and native plant gardens that are being integrated into the landscape.

Native Plant & Pollinator Garden Tour

When: 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, Saturday, June 14, 2025

Where: Cornell Cooperative Extension, 615 Willow Ave, Ithaca, NY

Description: Join in on Saturday, June 14, from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, for a tour of 3 public gardens and 2 private gardens in Ithaca and the Ellis Hollow area, all featuring native plants. See what is possible! Meet us between 10:30 and 11:30 at Cornell Cooperative Extension (615 Willow Ave, Ithaca)  to collect maps and tour the native plant and pollinator gardens there before proceeding to the other gardens. [Gardens will be open at designated times, so you need to get that map!] Free and open to the public. Please carpool as parking may be limited! Co-sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension and Pollinator Pathway.

Father’s Day Woods Walk

When: 2 pm to 3 pm, Sunday, June 15, 2025

Where: Clark Reservation State Park, 6105 E Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville, NY 13078

Description: Join FCR board member Gillian Glessman on an easy walk through the park as she points out and describes selected tree and plant species native to Clark Reservation. Meet at the Clark Reservation Nature Center at 2 pm.

Geological Hikes

When: 12 pm to 1 pm (Part 1) or 2 pm to 3:30 pm (Part 2), Sunday, June 22, 2025

Where: Clark Reservation State Park, 6105 E Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville, NY 13078

Description of Part 1: Join Dr. Ashley Prow-Fleischer for a one-hour guided hike along the Dry Lake, Table Rock, and Cliff Trails at Clark Reservation State Park (approximately 1 mile). Discover how the landscape formed and was shaped over nearly 400 million years of history and learn to spot common fossils. The moderate hike includes some step climbing and is best suited for ages 10 and up.

NOTE: Part 1 is limited to 20 people. RSVP

Description of Part 2: Join us for an interactive hike through Clark Reservation’s famous stair section down to Glacier Lake. With guidance from Dr Ashley Prow-Fleischer, you’ll learn how geologists interpret rock layers to reveal ancient environments and make your own stratigraphic map. After the hike, the group will return to the Nature Center to refine interpretations using common tools and the fossil collection. This advanced hike includes steep terrain and complex concepts and is best for adult participants with some hiking experience. Meet at the Clark Reservation Nature Center.
