MARSH! Invasives Removal and Tree Planting: NYS DEC Northern Montezuma Field Office

When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2026

Where: Montezuma Audubon Center, 2295 NY-89, Savannah, NY 13146

Description: Volunteer with Montezuma Audubon Center and NYS DEC staff to remove woody invasive plants from forested off-trail wildlife habitat and replace them with native tree species! Participants will meet with staff at the Montezuma Audubon Center (2295 State Route 89, Savannah, NY 13146) at 9am and go over safety and plant identification before heading out to the work area in shared transportation. You will be given any and all tools necessary to dig out and/or cut back vegetation and plant trees including saws, pruners, gloves, PPE, and shovels. Hydration will be available at all times and lunch will be provided by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. An email will be sent to all registrants prior to the event with additional preparation information. 

MARSH! – The Montezuma Alliance for the Restoration of Species and Habitats is a volunteer program for all that works on managing invasive species in various habitats in support of its partners in the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. The work is hands-on as we take on conservation projects to enhance Montezuma habitats and benefit wildlife.

MARSH! Pollinator Planting: Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge

When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2026

Where: Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, 3395 US Route 20, Seneca Falls, NY 13148

Description: Volunteer with Montezuma Audubon Center and US Fish and Wildlife Service staff at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (3395 US Route 20 EAST, Seneca Falls, NY 13148) to plant herbaceous plant species to create pollinator habitat! Participants will meet with staff in the parking lot at 9am and go over safety and planting techniques before heading out to the work area on foot. You will be given any and all tools necessary to plant including PPE, gloves, and hand tools. Hydration will be available at all times and lunch will be provided by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. An email will be sent to all registrants prior to the event with additional preparation information.

MARSH! Invasive Grid Mapping: Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge

When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 23, 2026 and Wednesday, May 27, 2026

Where: Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, 3395 US Route 20, Seneca Falls, NY 13148

Description: Volunteer with Montezuma Audubon Center and US Fish and Wildlife Service staff at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (3395 US Route 20 EAST, Seneca Falls, NY 13148) to digitally map invasive plant species in off-trail wildlife habitat! Participants will meet with staff in the parking lot at 9am and go over safety and plant identification before heading out to the work area in shared transportation. You will be given any and all tools and training necessary to identify and log any invasive plant species present in the unit. Hydration will be available at all times and lunch will be provided by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. An email will be sent to all registrants prior to the event with additional preparation information.

Land Stewardship | Trail Work Days at Lime Hollow

When: 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026

Where: Lime Hollow Environmental Education Campus, 3277 Gracie Rd, Cortland, NY 13045

Description: Join your friends at Lime Hollow and help us with fun projects around the property. Donโ€™t forget work gloves, appropriate clothing and a water bottle. We will meet at our pavilion at our education campus.

Stewardship Wednesdays: Invasive Plant Pulling at Beaver Lake

When: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Wednesdays, April 15, 2026 to May 27, 2026

Where: Beaver Lake Nature Center, 8477 East Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027

Description: Looking for a way to make a difference? Join a naturalist bright and early every Wednesday morning for a weekly invasive species removal and help protect our native plant communities! Long pants and heavy-duty gloves are recommended.

Volunteers receive free park admission for the day.

A-Team at Baltimore Woods

When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesdays

Where: Baltimore Woods Nature Center, 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus, NY 13108

Description: What better place to be at 9:00am on a Wednesday than Baltimore Woods, getting some fresh air and contributing to the management and improvement of the land? It is a great way to meet hard-working, dedicated people, who share your care for the natural world! Stop by for coffee, snacks and socializing from 9:00-9:30am (all volunteers are welcome even if you are not on the A-Team) and then work with the A-Team from 9:30am-12:00pm.

Description: Join your friends at Lime Hollow and help us maintain our trails. This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for people passionate about helping Lime Hollow. Donโ€™t forget work gloves, appropriate clothing and a water bottle. We will meet at our pavilion at our education campus.

1st and 3rd Saturdays

May 2 & 16, 2026

TREES Crew at Baltimore Woods

When: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1st and 3rd Saturdays

Where: Baltimore Woods Nature Center, 4007 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus, NY 13108

Description: Join us to get outside, learn about restoration and stewardship work, and meet other people interested in protecting the environment! Join the TREES crew to do invasive species management and native plant restoration to protect our preserve for generations to come. We will meet the first and third Saturday of the month. 

Registration is not required, but you can reach out to [email protected] or fill out the TREES Crew Interest Form to be added to the TREES Crew email list. The TREES Crew is flexible and you do not have to attend every meeting to join us.
