HGCNY is a volunteer-run chapter of Wild Ones, united by a shared vision: native plants and natural landscapes thriving in every community. Through education, advocacy, and collaborative action, we connect people with native plants for a healthy planet — and we’d love you to join us!
Your time and talents can make a real impact, whether you are supporting events, outreach, or behind-the-scenes planning. Your involvement helps create flourishing native landscapes – and it is a great way to connect with others passionate about a thriving planet.
From November to April, with a break in December, HGCNY hosts monthly meetings with guest speakers. After 18 years of wearing many hats, Program Chair, In‑Room Tech, and Special Events Coordinator, to name a few, our longtime volunteer is stepping down. We’re looking for volunteers to help keep these and all our programs thriving.
Explore the ways you can get involved! Join us in promoting native plants and natural landscapes by filling one of these volunteer roles:
Garden Buddies – Mentor others in creating and maintaining native plant gardens
Host a Show Me, Help Me Tours – Host garden tours to help everyone—host and guests alike—learn how to create living landscapes
In-Room Tech – Supports our monthly meetings by making sure the slides display properly both in the room and on Zoom, coordinating with the Remote Zoom Host, and serving as the technical point-of-contact during the meeting. Volunteers for this role should be comfortable with computers and Zoom and be able to bring their own laptop.
Native Plant Content Contributor – Write engaging posts about native plants, events, and HGCNY’s mission.
Program Committee – Arranges interesting and informative speakers for our monthly meetings. Identifies potential presenters, extends invitations, and confirms topics and dates. Want to help others discover the joy of native gardening by bringing great speakers to our community? Consider joining the Program Committee.
Special Event Coordinator: Plans and coordinates occasional chapter gatherings such as potluck or volunteer appreciation events. Identifies suitable dates and locations, confirms logistics (like food, supplies, and setup), and collaborates with other volunteers to ensure events run smoothly.
Tabling – Represent HGCNY at local events to share info and inspire action
Other – Have a skill, passion, or idea that doesn’t fit neatly into one of the roles above? We’d love to hear it.
